This grand piano is decorated in a style that would have been popular from the mid 18th century through to the mid 19th century. Queen Victoria had one – in her early years, and today a fabulous completely gilded one is in the white drawing room of Buckingham palace.
This gilded cream version features pictures on the outside and inside of the lid of an 18th century gearedn landscape with ladies and a gentleman enjoying the view from a balcony. This is also on the lid (insidde and outside) of the matching stool which opens to show sheet music. More sheet music is on the stand over the (shaped) keyboard. there are brass pedals on the lyre and the lid is propped open by a folding brass rod. Inside the body of the piano strings are replicated on a gold section with gold wires running down its length. It is finished with an embossed and gilded band of grapevines around the body in two shades of gold. The rest of the decoration is finished in gold lines and hand painted highlights.
