The Famille Jaune china on display in this cabinet, is based on chinese porcelain from the mid 17th to early 18th centuries. The name literally means “the yellow family” and refers to the background colour of the pieces. The Famille Jaune was a precursor to the better known Famille Rose.
The gloss mahogany cabinet is Queen Anne in style, which predominantly describes furniture from the 1720’s to 1760s – even though the name was first applied to the style more than a century after it was fashionable! The cabriole (or Queen Anne) leg is the most recognisable element of of the style, and was influenced by the Rococo style from the French court of Louis XV.
